I just finished reading Leo Babauta’s new book, The Power of Less and I must say it was phenomenal. Babauta is the author of the extremely popular blog Zen Habits, which he made into one of the top 100 blogs in the world within one year of creating it.

It is a small book and a very simple read. The point of his book is simplifying all aspects of our life, be it personal or professional. He offers tips on anything from simple goal setting to simple decluttering to simple exercise. For people currently burdened by the seemingly numerous stressors in their life, which is everyone these days, this book really lays out how we can relax and focus.

Upper Cervical Chiropractic is Focused

When applied to chiropractic, Specific Upper Cervical truly epitomizes the power of less. A specific atlas adjustment can affect the body so dramatically, sometimes it can be hard to believe.

The brain stem merges into the spinal cord just above the atlas as it exits the skull. If that atlas becomes subluxated, even just slightly, it can have a destructive effect on the body. That subluxation will interfere with nerve transmission to the entire body and begin the process of dis-ease. When our bodies stay in the process of dis-ease for a sustained period of time, eventually that can lead to actual disease.

Adjusting the atlas specifically, no matter how miniscule the distance, can reverse this dis-ease/disease process. If our body is out of alignment in any way, be it structurally, physically, or emotionally, it will compensate to correct itself. Basically the body has to rob Peter to pay Paul. A simple atlas adjustment can reduce that strain very quickly and easily.

The Power of Less vs. The Weakness of More

In our society today, the allopathic model still dominates. Millions and millions of people still think that prescription drugs and needless surgeries will fix the problem. They think first to look to an external source for their cure, instead of realizing the cure lies within and that it flows Above-Down-Inside-Out.

The Weakness of More generally looks like this:

1.) Bob gets sick, goes to the general practitioner, and gets prescription drugs.

2.) Bob gets side effects from the prescription drugs meant to cure initial sickness.

3.) Bob gets more prescription drugs to cure side effects of original prescription drugs meant to cure initial sickness.

4.) Bob gets side effects from new round of prescription drugs meant to cure side effects of original prescription drugs meant to cure initial sickness.

5.) Bob gets surgery to cure side effects from new round of prescription drugs meant to cure side effects of original prescription drugs meant to cure initial sickness.

6.) Bob takes painkillers to stop pain created by surgery to cure side effects from new round of prescription drugs meant to cure side effects of original prescription drugs meant to cure initial sickness.

7.) Bob gets third round of prescription drugs to cure side effects caused by painkillers to stop pain created by surgery to cure side effects from new round of prescription drugs meant to cure side effects of original prescription drugs meant to cure initial sickness.

8.) Bob gets second surgery to cure side effects of third round of prescription drugs to cure side effects caused by painkillers to stop pain created by surgery to cure side effects from new round of prescription drugs meant to cure side effects of original prescription drugs meant to cure initial sickness.

9.) Bob is now taking more prescription drugs than he has fingers and feels horrible all the time.

10.) Bob is now miserable and has lost all hope. He has lost complete control of his health because he looked to an external source in the first place.

We as a country deserve better than this. More importantly, we as humans deserve better than this. Let’s all make it a point to stop looking Out-Inside-Down-Above and trust in the body’s Innate Intelligence to do the right thing. Specific Upper Cervical Chiropractic will allow the body exactly that.

Thanks for pointing out the dangers of relying on prescription drugs to the readers of Take Charge of Your Health Care Carnival. I have seen some people, including children, messed up by psychiatric drugs. It is a quick fix which doesn’t help in the long run.

I couldn’t agree more, Helene. Thanks for posting my article in your carnival!
