I had the chance to finally meet Dr. Jon Schwartzbauer this past weekend at Upper Cervical Evolution. I was really impressed by how easy he is to talk to.
My wife January has actually talked to him several times in the past. She was contemplating going to chiropractic school, but after seeing what I have to go through, she thought it better not to go. Everytime she’s gotten off the phone with him, she’s said the same thing: “He’s easy to talk to.”
Dr. Schwartzbauer is working hard. He instilled clinic camp into the Sherman curriculum after he attended one here at Parker. He’s also made Sherman the first school to grab a hold onto the social media/ web 2.0 movement on the internet.
I’m grateful Dr. Schwartzbauer could take time out of his busy schedule to do an interview for The Atlas of Life.
Brandon: Why did you decide to become a chiropractor?
Dr. Schwartzbauer: “I first decided to become a chiropractor after shadowing a D.C. in his office for a few days. I was allowed to talk to his patients and I discovered that amazing outcomes were common under chiropractic care. That inspired me to start on my path as a chiropractor. I was a senior in high school at that time.”
Brandon: How did you first learn about Upper Cervical Chiropractic?
Dr. Schwartzbauer: “I learned about upper cervical chiropractic from the education and care that I received as a student here at Sherman College. Sherman has a number of classes in the core curriculum dedicated to educating our students about UC care. Also, my intern practiced upper cervical exclusively on me in our health center so I was able to experience this kind of care from that perspective.”
Brandon: What was the most amazing thing you witnessed in practice?
Dr. Schwartzbauer: “The most amazing thing I witnessed in practice (without going into patient testimonials) was the fact that patients understood the importance of upper cervical chiropractic and told others about the great benefits. As a student, it was hard to believe that you could build your practice practicing upper cervical only.”
Brandon: What is it like being the President of Sherman College?
Dr. Schwartzbauer: “I’m still trying to figure that one out. It’s both an honor and a great responsibility, and I enjoy both aspects of it every day.”
Brandon: What are some of the advantages of being President of Sherman College?
Dr. Schwartzbauer: “The advantages lie in the curriculum for our students and with the excellent care for the patients in both the clinic and everywhere our graduates are taking care of people. I consistently hear from people that Sherman graduates the “best adjusters” in the field. I love hearing the stories from our alumni staff; they often answer phone calls from people who are relocating and who are looking specifically for Sherman graduates as their chiropractors because they know our grads are excellent DCs and compassionate people.”
Brandon: What are some of the disadvantages of being President of Sherman College?
Dr. Schwartzbauer: “I can’t think of any real disadvantages. Our Sherman System is a technologically advanced, philosophically sound and clinically useful approach to the detection and correction of vertebral subluxation. While we do address the entire spine, we emphasize the upper cervical spine due to unique structure and function.”
Brandon: What do you envision for the future of Sherman College?
Dr. Schwartzbauer: “I envision Sherman having a bigger impact in the profession by graduating more students whose focus is to contribute to the quality of life and overall health of the people they serve through the correction of vertebral subluxations.”
Brandon: What is your vision for the future of Upper Cervical Chiropractic?
Dr. Schwartzbauer: “I would love to see at least one upper cervical chiropractor in every town with a population more than 5,000 people.”
Once again, a big thank you goes out to Dr. Schwartzbauer for his time. It is much appreciated.
