Dr. Opal Garman

I had the chance to meet Dr. Opal Garman (above right) at Upper Cervical Evolution. She was very nice and VERY enthusiastic about Upper Cervical Chiropractic! Dr. James Tomasi suggested at the time that I should eventually interview Dr. Opal. So that’s what I did.

I’m grateful that she had the chance to take time out of her busy schedule to answer some questions for The Atlas of Life.

Brandon: What made you decide to become a chiropractor?

Dr. Opal: “I was enrolled in nursing school at the time.  I planned on becoming an RN, and as I was in the orientation class when I made the decision to change my career path.

The instructor was speaking of the enormous amount of time that we would need to spend to make it through the course work.  They told us that we would need to “kiss our family goodbye” in order to be focused enough to complete our degree.  I thought to myself that if I needed to devote this amount of time to anything then I wanted more than just a degree in nursing.

I left the orientation and headed straight to the career exploration center to be tested for a new field of study.

Chiropractic came up #1 on my list for a career field.  My family had been to a Chiropractor and had amazing health changes as a result.  I had never contemplated the thought of becoming a Chiropractor before that time.”

Brandon: How did you get into Upper Cervical Chiropractic?

Dr. Opal: “My husband and I had just moved to St. Louis to begin Chiropractic College.  It was my first trimester at Logan College and up to this point in my life I had been experiencing some severe health problems.  I was miles away from family and friends and I began to have the most severe episode of my health related issue.

I had been experiencing health problems since I was 18 years old, and I had been dealing with these problems for 5 years and was desperate to find a way to be free of pain.

My husband called the only friend that we knew at the time in St. Louis.  Our friend happened to be a fellow student that we had met at Logan College.  We called her in desperation wondering which hospital that we should go to for help.  Our friend suggested that instead of going to a hospital that we go to see a friend that she knew could help me.

I was willing to try anything so we met and I received my first Upper Cervical Correction.  As I laid down to rest after the correction, I noticed that my pain started to dissipate.  I was amazed, because I had been on prescription pain medication up to that time which had become ineffective in dealing with the increasing pain.  Nothing had touched my pain for the last year, and we had tried everything.  I knew as I lay there that I had found an answer that was much bigger than just for myself.”

Brandon: What Upper Cervical technique do you utilize and why?

Dr. Opal: “I utilize Kale knee chest work, because it changed my life and health.”

Brandon: How did you decide to practice in Tulsa, Oklahoma?

Dr. Opal: “My husband and I grew up in Oklahoma and we always knew that we would return to be close to our family.”

Brandon: Who are some of your mentors and how have they helped you in practice and/or life?

Dr. Opal: “My mentor is the Upper Cervical Doctor that gave me the gift of Upper Cervical.  He was the Upper Cervical doctor that saw me through all my health problems. He also taught me how to give the gift of Upper Cervical to others.  Dr. Thad Vuagniaux helped change my health and ultimately my life.

Dr. Robert Kessinger has also been a mentor to me, and has given his time to train and teach me, as well as countless others the benefits of Upper Cervical Care.

Dr. Nikki Vuagniaux was the fellow student at Logan College that took me to receive my first Upper Cervical correction.  I will always be grateful to her for standing up for Upper Cervical throughout our educational experience at Logan.”

Brandon: What is the most rewarding aspect of being an Upper Cervical Chiropractor?

Dr. Opal: “The most rewarding aspect of what I do is that I am able to give the gift of Upper Cervical to others.  I treasure the gift of health that I was given as a result of Upper Cervical, and I feel so blessed to pass it on!”

Brandon: What is your vision for the future of Upper Cervical Chiropractic?

Dr. Opal: “My vision is one of UNITY, where all Upper Cervical Doctors unite to bring Upper Cervical to the world.  No matter what Upper Cervical discipline each doctor may practice, my vision is that we work together to help our patients achieve health.

This unity will help the world know the POWER OF UPPER CERVICAL!”

Thanks again to Dr. Opal Garman!
