Advocating Upper Cervical Unity: An Interview With Dr. Kyle Troyer

upper cervical, dr. kyle troyer

I met Dr. Kyle Troyer for the first time back in February. I got to talk to him more in April at Upper Cervical Evolution. One thing I can honestly say is that he has got to be one of the nicest individuals I have ever met. I can’t imagine anybody thinking anything ill of him. He’s a great guy to be around

This is probably the reason why he is doing so well in practice. I saw on Facebook not too long ago that Dr. Troyer had a patient appreciation day event where he checked 135 nervous systems that day alone. That’s extremely impressive.

Dr. Troyer was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to answer questions for The Atlas of Life.

Brandon: Why did you decide to become a Chiropractor?

Dr. Troyer: “The answer I love to say is Innate led me to do it!  The steps to that process including my going to college focused on physical therapy, based on the fact I knew I wanted to spend my life helping people and that seemed the most logical approach for me.  However, after my first semester of 3.22 GPA at the University of Northern Iowa I quickly realized that was not an option (at that time you needed a 3.95 just to apply to PT school!).  I had a friend at Palmer College of Chiropractic and she was pushing me to look at Chiropractic. In my last semester at UNI I was set to move to San Diego to work in the Biotech industry (pharmaceuticals!).  What else to do with a BA in Biology?

I visited Palmer College at Lyceum 1999, on my friend’s insistence, and heard Dr. Guy Riekeman speak about Chiropractic.  That talk changed my life.  My better 7/8 Jaime, who was my girlfriend at the time, was set to lose me to San Diego before I heard Dr. Riekeman’s talk.  The day I returned home she was helping me fill out my application to Palmer College.  I am thankful forever to Dr. Riekeman and that talk that began my love affair with Chiropractic.”

Brandon: How did you get involved with Upper Cervical Chiropractic?

Dr. Troyer: “At Palmer College, I began to wash myself in Chiropractic philosophy.  It seemed to make sense, and I always knew I had thought the body could heal itself.  I was so excited about Chiropractic’s role in helping that process happen!  I learned about Innate Intelligence and Universal Intelligence and the role subluxation plays in the interference to its expression through you and I.  It all made sense!

Clinically, I was under care in the student clinic and found out I had six lumbar vertebrae and a short leg on the left by ¼”!  Keep in mind I had never experienced a regular chiropractic adjustment in my lifetime before Palmer.  My student extern told me if I didn’t wear this ¼” heel lift under my left foot, I would develop a scoliosis by the time I was 40.  I didn’t want that, so of course I went for the lift.  This didn’t really jive with what I was learning about Innate and the philosophy from BJ Palmer, but it seemed like the thing to do.

This is the divine appointment time for me.  My friend, Ryan Rademacker, had come to Palmer just to get his DC degree to go back to New York and practice Knee Chest Upper Cervical work.  He started talking to me about the atlas/axis subluxation and the damaging effects it can have on the rest of the body.  I went to his new club he had started, the Kale club, and the first thing he said that day was “Whatever you do for your patients in your clinic, make sure you would do the same for your parents as well.  This is what I would do for my parents.”  That saying made me pause, and I stayed, and ended up starting under Upper Cervical care.

The changes I experienced under Upper Cervical Care were quite astonishing.  My left leg that was ¼” short suddenly became the same length as my right!  I knew that because that heel lift was irritating my left foot by the end of the day!  My brain started to function better, and I knew I had found a calling.

I must give credit to Dr. Michael U. Kale here.  I attended the last seminar he gave while he was on the planet.  He was not well at the time and sat in the back the entire Friday morning.  At lunch, he told all the new people to come up front and he sat down with the five of us.  Did he lay it on!  I cannot tell you a word he said today, but that day his words spoke to me!  He talked for an hour and was so exhausted by it he had to go home and rest for the next day and a half before he could welcome us to his mansion Saturday night.  What a Chiropractic warrior!  As long as I live, I will never forget that experience.”

Brandon: How long have you been in practice and what has it been like?

Dr. Troyer: “We have been in practice since February 2004.  Quite an experience, I must say.  So many highs and some tough lows, but through it all one thing has stood out:  I love being in my office and seeing our folks.  The last six years have been the most beautiful of my entire life, and never in my history have I experienced such exponential growth in ALL areas.

If you get into Upper Cervical Chiropractic to be immediately accepted by the masses, this may be a bit unnerving to hear that you probably won’t be.  At least at first.  Our mission with our organization and my personal mission is to allow Upper Cervical Care to be a household name.  BJ Palmer said our BIG JOB as a Chiropractor is to carry the story of the Above Down Inside Out principle to a topsy turvy world.  I am blessed to say I am doing that daily.  I feel it is incredible to participate in the mission.”

Brandon: Where do you practice and why?

Dr. Troyer: “My practice, Upper Cervical Health Centers, is located in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  I love Iowa, I was born and raised in Iowa, and it feels GREAT to be serving.  While attending UNI in Cedar Falls I fell in love with the town and the people.

I know God has had His hand in our office as well, as the first person I met in Cedar Falls when I came back to open shop is Laurie DeGroote, who is now my Office Manager.  She was enthusiastic about Chiropractic when I met her and has continued to bring that love and enthusiasm to our office daily.  She pointed out our current location, that it was empty because otherwise I would not have known it was here, and that she needed a Chiropractor.  Did she ever!  Laurie and her family have seen incredible health improvements.  She is such an advocate and a blessing for our office.”

Brandon: Why did you decide to join the vision of Upper Cervical Health Centers?

Dr. Troyer: “In the fall of 2006 we were enjoying the most success in practice we had ever experienced to that point, as Troyer Specific Chiropractic.  I had been trying to figure out the way to get my name out of it, as I knew it wasn’t about me but about the principle.  The first part of my lifelong vision is to build health restoring offices all over Eastern Iowa, and it was looking like a struggle to build the systems to allow that to happen as TSC.

October of 2006 I went to an Upper Cervical Marketing Seminar held in Charlotte, NC hosted by UCHC.  I met and very much enjoyed Dr. Drury and Dr Vauginaux, and the rest of the team already established.  It was an opportunity for me to remove my name from the clinic, to join a MUCH BIGGER vision than just my little community, and to have access to systems to speed up my realization of the goals we have established.  Still, there’s some pride to let go when you drop your name and what you feel could be important.  So I looked to the Green Books for an answer and Innate delivered, in Vol. XXV Clinical Controlled Research, on pg. 356-357.  The story is called Absent Names and an excerpt says:

‘That which has been known as “chiropractic” is greater than any man or set of men in its ranks.  We sometimes wonder if the time has not arrived to establish a new movement with a new approach, with this new profession now before us.’

I felt Innate was blessing the journey and I can honestly say it is the best move we have made in our Chiropractic life.”

Brandon: What is the best part about being an Upper Cervical Chiropractor?

Dr. Troyer: “I would say there are some definite side benefits:  Releasing the imprisoned mental impulse; being totally congruent with the Chiropractic principle; and seeing daily miracles.  Having people get excited when they do not need a correction is pretty neat.  I must say I love telling the story and think it to be the second most important story to be told to humanity, second only to the story of Christ.

One of the neatest things about being an Upper Cervical Chiropractor is you could never speak to the patient, do an exam for a subluxation, take an X-ray of it, correct it, watch the line clear, and know that the person is going to get better.  It is beautiful to have that kind of relationship with the Power within.”

Brandon: What is your best patient success story?

Dr. Troyer: “This is a hard question, because when I hear it I think about someone different each time; it’s who’s on your heart at that time.  I will share some different experiences and it will allow a glimpse into the Power of Innate flowing from Above Down and what it means to people.

Porter is a little fella who was diagnosed with Autism at the young age of 4, when his family was referred in to our office.  On his first two visits, he sprinted out the door and Mom had to chase him down so he didn’t run into the street.  Porter was all over, yet not present.  Mom is absolutely convinced Porter’s autism was a product of vaccinations.  We started making corrections and Mom was extremely proactive with doing things to help, detox etc.  One day, as the rest of Porter’s family was getting checked (it needs to be family care!), Porter looked up at Mom and asked “Is it my turn to get checked yet?” As he did, Mom burst into tears and when we inquired why, she said “This is amazing.  Porter has never asked a question in his life!”  I am convinced Porter has no autism now.  Talk about a life change for that family!

Jim had been under care for 3 months, his pain was gone, and every time he came in to get checked he said, “I can’t believe what it feels like to be pain free.”  One day he told Laurie, “Over the last 2 years I’ve spent $10,000 on alcohol.  I’m done drinking, as of today.”  The same man put into his success story, “If I would have known about this procedure 14 years ago, I would have saved a marriage and been a better father.  The whole world needs to know about Upper Cervical Care.”  That’s one of my favorites.

Scott was taking 3000 mg of Ibuprofin daily.  He has had such a turnaround in his life he is now set to graduate Palmer College and is going to turn on the world to Upper Cervical.   A mom told me this morning her kids don’t have any problems with their math anymore, where they used to get so frustrated they’d sit at the table and cry.  Gretchen had Fibromyalgia so bad, she had to move out of her 2 story house she loved into a ranch because the stairs were killing her.  After care, her Fibro doc said she doesn’t have it anymore, her Ulcerative colitis is gone and Barrett’s esophagus is in remission.  And she began clogging again!!!

Travis was supposed to be in a wheelchair because of his MS, diagnosed at age 24.  Now, at 29, he is so far from a wheelchair.  The guy works almost 70 hours a week and is absolutely going the opposite direction of death.

Brent has had some a mental shift since undertaking UC care he is ready to start Chiropractic College as soon as Innate delivers the way.

Kathy had a chronic cough for 20 years that has disappeared after one correction.

Every day a miracle happens.  It’s because God is good and breathed Innate into our bodies.  I just get to be the guy manning the switch, and make sure it’s turned on.  What a gift!”

Brandon: What is your vision for Upper Cervical Care?

Dr. Troyer: “Upper Cervical Care is, in my mind, the second greatest gift to humanity, only surpassed by the Christ idea.  What a gift to the world!  I am so thankful to be a part of the Upper Cervical Health Centers team as we, together, AS ONE, continue to deliver this principle to the world.

Our profession has been subluxated since what seems like 1961.  The great people like Dr. Kale, Dr. Sweat, Dr. Dickholtz, Dr. Grostic, Dr. Blair, Dr. Sherman, etc. carried on the TRUTH about Chiropractic.  We now feel like an adjustment has been made, and our profession is healing.  Their will be some retracing, it won’t happen overnight, but the most important thing is WE ARE ON THE RIGHT PATH.  Unity is key, and I have a hat that says ‘One Team.  One Dream.’  This, I believe, needs to be our motto moving forward in the Upper Cervical Chiropractic world.

Upper Cervical Care will one day be known in every household as the cornerstone to health and abundance.  In the meantime, we will do all we can to carry it forward.  I’ll leave with a challenge from BJ, pg. 76, Vol. XXV:

‘Sooner or later, each of us is called upon to face this battle within ourselves and answer which of the roads to travel.  Shall we become a follower of the satisfied group?  Shall we become a battler for the future service which the vast group ridicule?  We faced that issue when a boy of 16.  We found ourself!  We have never hesitated from that day to this, to work for the future.  Will you?  Only YOU can answer THAT question.’

Thanks again to Dr. Kyle Troyer for such a great interview.

I remember being with Dr. Troyer at Palmer and going to the Kale clubs and down to that last seminar with Dr. Kale before he passed. Dr. Kale was a warrior for Specific Chiropractic, just as Dr. Troyer has become. Congratulations Dr. Troyer on effectively spreading the bigger message of upper cervical specific chiropractic to the world and to adding years to life and life to years. You are a great asset to our wonderful profession. Our Innate blesses your Innate because your Innate has blessed ours.
