Vaccination Debate On The Doctors TV Show

by Brandon Harshe, DC on May 11, 2010

Vaccinations are a hot topic. People are adamant no matter what side of the debate you choose.

Personally, we have not vaccinated any of our kids, nor will we. My wife and I have done a lot of research on the subject and we just don’t believe the benefits are greater than the risk. Not by a long shot.

On the TV show “The Doctors,” there were some heated debates taking place on the topic of vaccines.

I posted several clips for you to watch.

I choose to make sure my kids’ nervous systems are clear of interference, thereby allowing their immune systems to function at 100%.

I feed my kids healthy foods i.e. fruits and vegetables, so that they can continue to support their immune systems. We make sure they get outside to play so that they get their exercise to further strengthen their bodies, as well as enough Vitamin D from the sunshine.

Why would my kids need any vaccinations when their lifestyles are that healthy?

It doesn’t make sense to me.

Couldn’t agree more! Our 19mth old has been so healthy – attributed to the same reasons you cited + mom nursing and God’s blessings. Years prior to our son’s birth we studied this subject in detail and it was a no-brainer for us.

The first clip is really good. The second in particular is frustrating, because the defensive doctor makes a good point that he’s being personally antagonized by the guest, and instead of presenting a question like “the research I’ve done indicates that only 2 of the 36 vaccines has been studied intensively” he just starts caterwauling. I’d be so happy to see people able to maintain a rational conversation on both sides of this issue. I think the conversation would advance more effectively and we could build bigger interdisciplinary coalitions if both sides didn’t reduce to shouting.

Vaccines are dangerous. Period.

And I had to literally ask Brandon if the one doctor who couldn’t speak rationally if he was really a doctor.

True, both sides need to stop shouting. However, put yourself in the shoes of parents who had a healthy child become an introverted mystery after vaccinations. They bring up the subject to MDs, and its discounted as a one time occurence, when it’s not. An autism rate of 1 out of approximately every 150 is not a one time thing.

The MDs need to acknowledge that their holy grail might have some holes in it. When that happens, there won’t be so much shouting. Heck, the government has had to acknowledge it twice aleady.

I had an interesting discussion recently with a PhD vaccine researcher from a local university. At the beginning of the conversation, he came out “guns blazing” with a heavily pro-vaccine stance.

After an hour of rationally discussing vaccine components, and variety of research studies, he agreed that he wouldn’t vaccinate his own children using the current vaccine schedule, and that it was “too much, too soon”… He begrudgingly admitted that some vaccines really were unnecessary.

Much of his defense centered around the concept of “herd immunity” — a topic that I would have liked to see discussed on this episode of The Doctors.

The M.D.’s keenly pointed out that there is so much in the environment that may cause the negative effects attributed to vaccines… why doesn’t it ever occur to the medical community that the environment may also be the true cause of many positive effects attributed to vaccines? Something I’d love to throw their way-

In a way, I feel that immunizations are essential. However, I am reluctant to act on these feelings. When my now three year old son was 6 months, during one doctor visit, he was injected with 5 different types of immunizations. At the time, I was hurt to see my poor little man in pain. I remember looking at all the band aids that covered his tiny arms and legs. I wish they didn’t give him so many at one time, but then again, I was happy that it was out of the way….or so I thought. A few days past, my son was not the same. He didn’t smile. He didn’t babble or coo. He wasn’t reaching any of his development milestones. Granted, all kids develop at different rates, but something was wrong. Fast forward: today he struggles. It saddens me not to hear my son call out for his mother. It’s devastating to see him have fits of rage because he does not know how to express himself. And the judging is ten-fold, ugh, the nonstop questioning and criticism by others….why isn’t he talking?…why isn’t he potty trained?….why does he ignore you?…..Some people just don’t get it. They feel as if he is rebelling and being lazy. I’m his mother, I know what’s really going on. My son is soooo bright. Right now he is in the stages of being tested for Asperger’s Syndrome. This kiddo is smart! He can recite and identify all letters of the alphabet, shapes, letters, and even read. But he cannot structure sentences or express apathy. Most of his language is stolen, meaning he uses phrases commonly heard instead of just talking. He’s coming around. I’m relieved he isn’t stuck in the stage of being totally isolated….he was always in his own little world with a Hot Wheel car permanently affixed to his hand while the others were neatly lined up. *Sigh*…….if you must immunize you child, limit it to one shot every 3-4 months for the first year of life.

Thanks for stopping by Trudy, I appreciate your comments. If someone wants to immunize their child because they feel its right, fine. But I would suggest NO SHOTS for the first 2 years of life, and definitely not the first year. A child’s immune system is still developing and to bombard it with the chemicals and preservatives is just not right. Or healthy.

Trudy, I’m very sorry to read about your struggle and the health of your son. I would encourage you to visit Dr. Daniel Pompa’s site and familiarize yourself with solutions he provides for cases just like this.

Dr. Dan and Son Story (this page will have a link at the bottom to read full story).

This doc’s adopted son was vaccine damaged, but you should hear about him now!!

Bottom line….when the root cause is either biotoxins, diet related or heavy metal poisoning (mercury in shots etc) this man knows what to do! Not that every person will regain perfect health afterwards, but countless folks have benefited under the care of this man – me included!

And remember….there are many testimonies out there that point to UC care as being very helpful for vaccine injured children.

BTW: he does phone consultations.

Godbless!
