(Update: As of September 15th, 2010, there is a one time $35.00 set up fee associated with The Atlas of Life Chiropractic Directory. Read more about it here.)
When we put together The Atlas of Life Chiropractic Directory a couple months ago, I genuinely thought it was a good idea to make it a paid directory.
But, sometimes what I think and what other people think are two different things.
There are several reasons why I came to this conclusion:
1.) My initial goal with this website was to get the word out about Upper Cervical Chiropractic. I have expanded that to included principled Chiropractic overall, but getting the word out is the primary objective.
2.) The Atlas of Life will not help me retire any time soon, nor would I want to.
3.) If I want to really help get the word out, then that means helping other doctors get the word out so potential patients can find them.
I still feel strong about allowing upper cervical AND full spine chiropractors, but there will no longer be a fee associated with signing up. I am not above admitting something doesn’t work when it really doesn’t. And I feel that continuing to charge a fee that no one is paying is dumb, especially when the directory is just sitting there, collecting cyber-dust, so to speak.
I still feel that having a listing on the directory will increase the link juice to your site simply because of the strong SEO The Atlas of Life enjoys.
All in all, here’s a quote that pretty much sums up my thoughts on this issue.
I don’t write my blog to get anything from you in exchange. I write it because giving my small gift to the community in the form of writing makes me feel good. I enjoy it that you enjoy it. When that gift comes back to me, one day, in an unexpected way, I enjoy the work I did twice as much. – Seth Godin in Linchpin
