You Can Live Without a Brain, But You Can’t Live Without a Brain Stem

by Brandon Harshe, DC on July 5, 2010

I saw this video last night and thought it to be very interesting.

With the brain stem controlling all vital organ functions i.e. heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, and various other vital organ functions, it appears safe to say you need to get your upper cervical spine checked on a regular basis to ensure zero interference at the brain stem level.

What happens when you have interference there? Look what happened to Christopher Reeve when he shattered his atlas.

Enjoy the video!

The brainstem does not extend down to the atlas.

Brad, I didn’t say the brain stem goes down to atlas. I said “what happens when you have interference there?” A shattered atlas and a badly injured spinal cord at the level of C1 will have an effect on autonomic function, like it did with Christopher Reeve, even if it is not in that area specifically.

Would you disagree with that?
