On April 20th, 2010 the oil drilling rig Deepwater Horizon exploded while drilling for oil 42 miles southeast of Venice, Louisiana, killing 11 workers in the process. Two days later, on April 22nd, the $560 million rig sank, leaving a slick of oil that could be seen for five miles. Two internal reports from Transocean, the company that owned the Deepwater Horizon, show that both BP and Transocean knew about workers’ concerns about safety procedures and reliability of the of the rig equipment. BP, the company who the Deepwater Horizon was licensed to, claimed responsibility for the deadly accident and vowed to use any all resources to stop the gushing of oil. 172 millions gallons of oil later, and BP is finally making progress plugging up the mile deep well.
So what does this have to do with your health?
Think of the Deepwater Horizon as a metaphor for your health. Let’s say you choose to ignore safety precautions and faulty integrity of the structure i.e. high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, Type II diabetes, etc. Instead of taking the necessary measures to shore up the integrity of your rig, you continue to engage in self-destructive behavior i.e. you choose to eat fast food, processed foods, no fruits or veggies, drink soda instead of water, take multiple prescriptions of drugs, don’t exercise, don’t sleep well, stress out easily, etc.
When your Deepwater Horizon (your health) explodes, you will sink as well.

Things like a stroke or a heart attack won’t warn you they’re coming. In fact, they are often the first symptoms that something is wrong. Symptoms are your body’s way of crying out for help, that it can no longer adapt to the unhealthy abuse resulting from destructive lifestyle choices. Causes of the symptoms, left untreated, will be nothing more than your own personal mile deep oil well gushing millions of gallons of oil.
Things like regular specific chiropractic care, exercise, enough fruits, veggies, and water, enough sleep, and sunshine will help you stay healthy and avoid a crisis situation in need of emergency medical care.
Because no one wants their body to be the human equivalent of the Deepwater Horizon.
