Kids Should Not Have Back Problems: A Video On Backpack Safety

by Brandon Harshe, DC on August 16, 2010

Last week, I gave a backpack safety class in our practice. I thought I would turn some of my Powerpoint slide into a video. Here it is. Enjoy!

Great video Doctor Harshe about the importance of backpack safety on the developing young spines and how it affects young children and adolescents health.
I wrote a post series about this subject last year that you and your readers can read Here: http://belviderechiropractic.com/tag/backpack-saftey/
And this year, I also did a video post you and your readers can watch when it’s published on 8/17/2010 Here: http://belviderechiropractic.com/events/back-to-school-time-again-whats-the-most-important-thing-you-should-know-to-protect-your-childrens-future-health/
By educating teachers, parents, and children in proper body mechanics and a healthy posture, we can help them grow up with less pain, reduce the odds of future disability, and help this future workforce decrease on-the-job injuries.
As many adults with chronic spinal conditions can trace their problems to years of bad posture habits and poor body mechanics formed in early childhood.

Dr. Harshe, love the video. I just wrote a press release story on the dangers of children wearing heavy backpacks. I think parents need to put an emphasis on the damaging effects heavy backpacks can have. With increased pressure on the lower back, it could cause some serious issues in children such as curvature in the spine. You can read the recent press release on children and backpacks here:
http://www.fastpressreleaser.com/overland-park-chiropractor-explains-how-heavy-backpacks-can-cause-long-term-back-problems-for-children/

Because back pain is such a common issue in our society we need to start prevention at an early age.
